According to The American Institute of Stress, 44 percent of Americans feel more stressed than they did five years ago. They even report that stress is the basic cause for 60 percent of all human disease and illness. Facing your stress and taking the necessary steps to reduce stress can lead to a healthier life. Here at Selah Salon & Spa, we have a comfortable and soothing atmosphere. Aside from a relaxing spa treatment, we have a few ideas that will help you deal with your stress.

Exercise

Learning to manage stress will improve your quality of life greatly. Exercising can reduce fatigue, improve concentration, and enhance your cognitive functions. This is great news for those who are stressed because they have a hard time with these particular issues. Exercise also produces endorphins which improves sleep and in turn can reduce stress. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, scientists conducted studies that revealed that regular aerobic exercise decreases tension, improves sleep and self-esteem, and stabilizes mood. So, as you can see adding exercise to your weekly routine will have many more benefits than just relieving stress.

Hobbies Can Decrease Stress Levels

Studies have shown that hobbies could have the same health benefits as exercise. Participants in a study were found to be 34 percent less stressed during the days they participated in their hobbies. They were also found to be 18 percent less during these hobbies. Their heart rates were lower for several hours after as well.

Get A Spa Treatment to Lower Stress

Human touch releases oxytocin, a hormone that can counteract stress hormones. Oxytocin is also know for increasing feelings of trust and enabling bonding. Getting a spa treatment, namely a massage, can also release endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, while lowering your heart rate and blood pressure and relaxing your muscles. Clinical studies have revealed that a 90 minute massage can lower cortisol levels, the hormone that causes stress, and insulin levels.
